How to Get Rid of the Stink
Switching to all-natural deodorant can be quite the adventure. It brings the ever so pleasant wave of nauseating pubescent like smells back to your life again. I used to never wear deodorant when I was on birth control. Y’all may think that’s gross but it is so freeing to not have to deal with an extra step. However, once I let my hormones run absolutely wild I had a nice musky smell with or without deodorant. It’s hard to imagine I’m single, I know. I mean who doesn’t love a good musky smell at any given point of the day? Yikes.
I started with Schmidt’s Fragrance-free deodorant and loved it. It kept me calm, cool, and fragrance free, which, I think we can all agree, is better than musky. Unfortunately, close to three months after consistently using Schmidt’s Fragrance-free deodorant my body decided that it would be super fun to just completely reject it. So, annoyed, I went to the all-knowing Google. I scrolled and scrolled and scrolled and scrolled some more reading copious amounts of reviews and hearing sweaty, stinky stories one after the other. Finally, I landed on Primal Pit Paste. I really liked it at the beginning but it quickly stopped working. I was not a huge fan of actually applying the paste because I would get it all over myself just because I’m a disaster. It often left stains on my clothes and made my armpits itchy. I read so many reviews that sang their praises. My favorite bloggers all use it. So, I was kind of disappointed to find out that my body didn’t react with it as well as I had hoped.
I was visiting my hair stylist one day who is not only a baller hair stylist but also a Master Herbalist. We both are very intentional in our products and avoid toxic chemicals. I was talking about how I stank all of the time and no deodorant worked. She suggested that I do a detoxing mask and that should take away my issues and it so did! I honestly don’t remember what she gave me but I do know that I make my own detoxing mask about once a month to make sure my body is getting rid of toxins properly.
After that I went back to Schmidt’s all-natural deodorant but started using the Rose Vanilla scent instead and it is still working like a charm! I seriously love Schmidt’s products and their company as a whole.
Here’s what I used for my deodorant detox mask. Seriously, it’s so easy. And I use bentonite clay in almost every facet of my life (maybe I should do a bentonite clay appreciation post?).
Deodorant Detox Mask
2 parts Bentonite Clay
1 part apple cider vinegar
Mix the ingredients to form a past and rub on to armpits. Let dry for 10-20 minutes. Once dry rinse off with warm water.
Pro tip: do this before showering so you can just rinse off in the shower.
What are some of your favorite all-natural deodorants? I’m always looking for new suggestions!
